Law Society Tribunal Regulatory Proceedings for April 2014
TORONTO, May 12, 2014 /CNW/ - The Law Society of Upper Canada regulates the lawyers and paralegals of Ontario in the public interest. The Law Society ensures that all lawyers and licensed paralegals in Ontario meet standards of learning, professional competence and professional conduct that are appropriate for the legal services provided.
The Law Society Tribunal recently heard the following matters. The Tribunal, which is an independent administrative tribunal within the Law Society, is responsible for processing, hearing and deciding these cases.
Emmanuel Omon-Bhio Akioyamen (2010) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer shall be suspended for three months commencing on the date his current indefinite suspension ends, and the suspension shall continue indefinitely until specified conditions are met.
Esimaje Awani (2011) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Paralegal was suspended for one month commencing after the termination of his administrative suspension and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met.
Gleb Bazov (2006) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer's licence was suspended on an interlocutory basis and he shall comply with specified terms. The Lawyer shall be examined by a doctor for the purpose of determining whether he is or has been incapacitated as defined under the Law Society Act and a prognosis.
Jay Rudolph Bradley (2008) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Paralegal is suspended for two months and two weeks. If the Paralegal pays a fine of $5,000 to the Society no later than 25 days after the commencement of his suspension, the duration of his suspension will be one month instead of two months and two weeks.
Jodi Lynne Feldman (1984) of the City of Toronto
Decision: Further to the Decision and Order dated January 21, 2014, the Lawyer shall pay costs to the Society in the amount of $25,000.
Frederick Simon Hawa (1988) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was ordered to pay costs of $15,182 to the Law Society.
Terence Austin Kelly (1982) of the City of Toronto
Decision: Further to the Appeal Panel's Order of August 31, 2012, the Appeal Division ordered that the Lawyer's licence is revoked, effective immediately.
Antonio D.R. Lacaria (2008) of the City of Vaughan
Decision: The Paralegal is granted permission to surrender his licence to provide legal services. If the Paralegal does not do so by April 30, 2014, his licence will be revoked.
Deborah Frances Lowes (2000) of the City of Chatham-Kent
Decision: The licensee was suspended for two months commencing July 1, 2014.
Kerlan Garfield McLean (2008) of the City of Brampton
Decision: The Paralegal shall pay a fine of $2,000.
Said Mohammedally (1996) of the City of Toronto
The Law Society's appeal from the order dated January 23, 2013 is allowed. The Lawyer shall be suspended for three months, commencing on May 26, 2014.
Paul Alexander Robson (1983) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer's licence was revoked.
Charles Myer Rotenberg (1980) of the City of Ottawa
Decision: The Lawyer shall surrender his licence by May 2, 2014 at 5 p.m., after which if his licence is not surrendered, it will be revoked.
Renata Snidr (2002) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Respondent's licence was revoked.
Rosario Talarico (1982) of the City of Ottawa
Decision: The costs order made by the hearing panel is set aside and the costs of the appeal are awarded to the Law Society in the amount of $12,500 all in, payable on or before July 2, 2014.
Roslyn Heather Tuer (2002) of the Community of Trenton
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for one month commencing after the termination of her administrative suspension and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met.
