Law Society Tribunal Regulatory Proceedings for February 2015

TORONTO, March 18, 2015 /CNW/ - The Law Society of Upper Canada regulates the lawyers and paralegals of Ontario in the public interest. The Law Society ensures that all lawyers and licensed paralegals in Ontario meet standards of learning, professional competence and professional conduct that are appropriate for the legal services provided.

The Law Society Tribunal recently heard the following matters. The Tribunal, which is an independent administrative tribunal within the Law Society, is responsible for processing, hearing and deciding these cases.

ORDERS

LAWYERS

John Paul Abbott (1989) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer's motion for a stay of the order of January 22, 2015, was allowed. The penalty of revocation was stayed until the agreed hearing date of March 24, 2015. 

Paolo Palmo De Francesca (2000) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer shall be reprimanded and pay a fine of $10,000.

Dorothy Elizabeth DeMerchant (1984) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Law Society's appeal was dismissed.

Gary Neinstein (1970) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Appellant shall pay to the Law Society costs in the amount of $15,000 within three months of February 9, 2015.

Cuong The Nguyen (1997) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for two months commencing April 1, 2015.

Roberto Nobili (1993) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was found to be incapacitated and incapable of meeting his obligations as a licensee.

Darren Elliot Sukonick (1996) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Law Society's appeal was dismissed.

Heinz Peter Von Sengbusch (1976) of the City of London
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for two months commencing February 20, 2015, and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met.

Norma Jean Walton (1995) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Law Society's appeal of the penalty ordered on May 16, 2014, was allowed. The 18-month suspension was set aside and the Lawyer's licence was revoked.

PARALEGALS

Suzanne Nicole Cwalino (2008) of the City of Kitchener
Decision: The Paralegal is permitted to surrender her licence.

Hersch Harry Kopyto of the City of Toronto applied for licensing as a Paralegal.
Decision: The application is dismissed.

Leonard Howard Libman of the Community of Thornhill
Decision: The Applicant is now of good character and his application for a Paralegal Licence is allowed.

Tyler Edward Murphy of the Community of Severn Bridge
Decision: The Applicant is of good character and therefore eligible to be admitted to the Law Society as a Paralegal.

Paul Louis Pauze (2008) of the Town of Penetanguishene
Decision: The Paralegal is suspended immediately and continuing indefinitely until a specified condition is met. The Paralegal is also suspended for one month following the end of the earlier suspension.

Robert Joseph Potomski (2008) of the City of Windsor
Decision: The stay ordered by the Hearing Division in paragraph 2 of its January 26, 2015 order is extended until March 2, 2015.
