Law Society Tribunal Regulatory Proceedings for July 2014

TORONTO, Aug. 7, 2014 /CNW/ - The Law Society of Upper Canada regulates the lawyers and paralegals of Ontario in the public interest. The Law Society ensures that all lawyers and licensed paralegals in Ontario meet standards of learning, professional competence and professional conduct that are appropriate for the legal services provided.

The Law Society Tribunal recently heard the following matters. The Tribunal, which is an independent administrative tribunal within the Law Society, is responsible for processing, hearing and deciding these cases.

Glen Hugh Peter Abrahams (1984) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was ordered to pay costs of $6,397.78 to the Society.

David Ian Anber (2009) of the City of Ottawa
Decision: The Respondent shall be reprimanded.

George Harvey Bishop (1975) of the City of Woodstock
Decision: The Lawyer was reprimanded.

William John Franklin Bishop (1973), of the City of Kingston
Decision: Further to the order of May 5, 2014, the Lawyer shall pay costs of $15,000 to the Society.

John Blackburn (2010) of the City of Mississauga
Decision: The Paralegal's licence is revoked as of July 14, 2014.

Sylvano Angelo Carlesso (1978) of the City of Timmins
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for two months, starting 30 days after July 7, 2014 or such other date as the parties may agree.

Gabriella Varsha Deokaran (2011) of the City of Mississauga
Decision: The Lawyer's appeal from a summary suspension for failing to pay LAWPRO insurance premium levies was dismissed.

Garth Howard Drabinsky (1975) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer's licence to practise law is revoked, effective immediately.

Howard Sanford Dyment (1978) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer's appeal from a seven-month suspension and an order that he reimburse fees charged to a client was dismissed. The seven-month suspension will commence on August 23, 2014.

Robert Roy Istl (1981) of the City of Windsor
Decision: The Lawyer is granted permission to surrender his licence to practice law. If the Lawyer does not surrender his licence by August 22, 2014, the Lawyer's licence will be revoked.

Ari Benjamin Kulidjian (1994) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for two months, commencing at the conclusion of his current administrative suspension and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met.

David Wai Kit Lam (1999) of the City of Burnaby, BC
Decision: The summary order of May 8, 2014, SO46 11/10 suspending the appellant's licence to practise law is stayed until the merits of the appeal are determined by the Appeal Division. The stay will terminate if the appeal is not perfected by August 19, 2014 or upon withdrawal of the appeal.

Gary Neinstein (1970) of the City of Toronto
Decision: A stay pending appeal was granted on condition that the Appellant shall file his appeal book, factum, compendium and authorities on or before September 14, 2014.

Katherine Suzanne Sam (2004) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for one month, commencing when her administrative suspension concludes, and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met.

Joseph Gerald George White (1995) of the City of Ottawa
Decision: The Lawyer is reprimanded and shall abide by specified terms.
