Law Society Tribunal Regulatory Proceedings for September 2014
TORONTO, Oct. 7, 2014 /CNW/ - The Law Society of Upper Canada regulates the lawyers and paralegals of Ontario in the public interest. The Law Society ensures that all lawyers and licensed paralegals in Ontario meet standards of learning, professional competence and professional conduct that are appropriate for the legal services provided.
The Law Society Tribunal recently heard the following matters. The Tribunal, which is an independent administrative tribunal within the Law Society, is responsible for processing, hearing and deciding these cases.
George Brendan Callahan (1984) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was reprimanded.
Kay Martha Carlson (1981) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer is fined $1,500 and suspended for three months commencing at the conclusion of any current suspensions and continuing indefinitely until the fine is paid.
Howard Sanford Dyment (1978) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was ordered to pay costs of $25,000 to the Law Society.
Tadesse Gebremariam (2008) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Paralegal is suspended for three months, commencing upon the satisfaction of specified terms in the Decision and Order dated July 13, 2012.
Douglas Garfield Hugh Laframboise (2011) of the City of Mississauga
Decision: The proceeding was dismissed.
Jonathan Howard Marler (1975) of the Town of Oakville
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for 90 days commencing September 18, 2014 and must comply with specified terms on his return to practise.
Kenneth William McKenzie (1977) of the City of Orillia
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for two months, commencing on December 1, 2014.
David Hugh Molson (1996) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Decision and Order of the Hearing Division dated August 1, 2014 is stayed, subject to specified terms. The Lawyer is suspended indefinitely, effective September 1, 2014.
Tang Trang Nguyen (1995) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Law Society's appeal was allowed, in part, and a new hearing was ordered before a panel of the Hearing Division.
Tang Trang Nguyen (1995) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was ordered to pay costs of the appeal of $15,000 to the Law Society.
Joseph Paradiso (1973) of the Community of Woodbridge
Decision: The Lawyer's motion to stay term 2 of the November 27, 2013 Decision and Order in Application LCN92/12 was granted.
Renata Snidr (2002) of the City of Toronto
Decision: Further to the order of April 2, 2014, the Lawyer shall pay costs of $1,500 to the Law Society.
Norma Jean Walton (1995) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was ordered to pay costs of $172,632.48 to the Law Society.
John Charles West, of the City of Windsor
Decision: The Paralegal Applicant's application for a Class P1 licence was dismissed. This decision is under appeal to the Appeal Division.
