LCBO offers largest kosher selection ever for Passover

TORONTO, March 23, 2012 /CNW/ - The LCBO is offering more than 180 kosher products, including 36 new releases in time for Passover, making this year's selection its largest ever. Passover begins on April 7.

Most of the new offerings are premium wines made from popular grape varieties, including chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir and sauvignon blanc. The selection includes wines from Israel, France, Italy, Spain, California, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Chile.

"The quality of kosher wines has evolved in step with changing consumer tastes," says Bob Downey, Senior Vice President, LCBO Sales & Marketing.  "Wine consumers are increasingly looking for high quality and good value so we've assembled a diverse assortment of kosher products for Passover that delivers on both counts."

Of the 36 new offerings, 10 have been released through the LCBO's Vintages fine wine and premium spirits sections and 26 others, including five liqueurs, are new additions to store kosher sections.  The LCBO's kosher selection also includes more traditional kosher wines, fortified wines, dessert wines, sparkling wines and spirits, including brandy and vodka.  Wines start at less than $10, while the spirits are in the $20-$45 price range.

New and interesting products include:

• Cava Brut Castell D'Olerdola from Spain
• Les Floreales Moscato Sparkling and 2010 Barkan Classic Pinot Noir from Israel
• 2009 Sauvignon Blanc Louis Blanc KP from France
• 2008 Weinstock Cellar Select Cabernet Sauvignon from California's Napa Valley
• Binyamina liqueurs, including Chocolate, Amaretto and Peach

Varied quantities of kosher products are available in more than 500 of the LCBO's 622 stores across the province, with the largest selection available in three GTA stores - 180 Promenade Circle (Promenade Mall) in Thornhill,1838 Avenue Road (south of Wilson Avenue) and 675 Wilson Avenue in North York.

Consumers are reminded to bring a reusable bag when shopping at the LCBO and to take empty beverage alcohol containers (large and small glass bottles, PET plastic, Tetra Pak cartons, bag-in-box and cans) to The Beer Store for a full deposit refund.
