LCBO stores raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada
TORONTO, Aug. 26 /CNW/ - Starting September 1, the public can help support Muscular Dystrophy Canada by making a donation at any of the more than 600 LCBO stores throughout Ontario. Donation boxes for Muscular Dystrophy Canada will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until September 30.
Your support allows Muscular Dystrophy Canada to continue in its mission to eliminate neuromuscular disorders and make life richer and more rewarding for Canadians affected by it. There are over 4,000 people in Ontario, both children and adults, registered with Muscular Dystrophy Canada. As a result of increased awareness of Muscular Dystrophy Canada and neuromuscular disorders, the number of people registering with Muscular Dystrophy Canada is increasing. Donations from organizations such as the LCBO are crucial to Muscular Dystrophy Canada's success in continuing to provide our programs and services for Canadians who need it. "Muscular Dystrophy Canada is thrilled to be a part of LCBO's 2010 Donation Box Program. This could not come at a more opportune time, as we are continuing to receive more requests for support than ever," says Lisa Darcy, Revenue Development Coordinator. "We would like to thank LCBO, its employees, and especially its customers for providing us with this opportunity."
"We take our community involvement very seriously and are pleased to partner with Muscular Dystrophy Canada," says LCBO President and CEO Bob Peter. "LCBO's customers and staff always give generously to help their fellow Ontarians and we appreciate their contributions to these worthy causes."
Muscular Dystrophy Canada is one of 26 provincial, as well as numerous local charities that will benefit from the LCBO's province-wide donation box program in 2010. In 2009, LCBO raised a total of $4.2 million for charities through special programs and initiatives, of which $3.8 million was raised through in-store fundraising. In addition, LCBO's annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.41 billion in fiscal 2009-10, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services, and priorities, including health care and education.
Muscular Dystrophy Canada thanks the public for its support when shopping at their local LCBO store during September.
