LCBO stores raise funds for the Children's Aid Foundation
TORONTO, Jan. 28, 2013 /CNW/ - Starting February 3, the public can help support the Children's Aid Foundation by making a donation at any of the more than 630 LCBO stores in Ontario. Donation boxes for the Foundation will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until March 2, 2013.
The Children's Aid Foundation is a privately-funded charity committed to improving the lives of abused and neglected children by funding programs in the areas of education, enrichment and prevention. The Foundation raises funds and provides grants to the Children's Aid Society of Toronto, Jewish Family and Child Services, Catholic Children's Aid Society of Toronto, Native Child and Family Services of Ontario, as well as other child welfare organizations across Canada. The Children's Aid Foundation supports the individual needs of children before, during and after they leave the care of child welfare agencies.
"We are extremely grateful to have the support of LCBO's province-wide store network," says Joe Canavan, Chairman and Interim CEO of the Children's Aid Foundation. "This is an extraordinary opportunity for people across Ontario to play a direct role in permanently transforming the lives and futures of deserving young people right in their own communities. Every donation will provide access to the support and resources they so desperately require to lead a better life and find the path to a world of opportunity."
"As a socially responsible community partner, LCBO is pleased to partner with the Children's Aid Foundation and support a variety of worthy causes," says LCBO President & CEO Bob Peter. "Through the generosity of LCBO customers and staff, we help improve the lives of countless Ontarians and make a difference where we live and work."
The Children's Aid Foundation is among 28 provincial, as well as numerous local charities, that will benefit from LCBO's province-wide donation box program in 2013. In 2011, LCBO raised a total of more than $6.2 million for charities through special programs and initiatives, of which $5.7 million was raised through in-store fundraising. In addition, LCBO's annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.63 billion in fiscal 2011-12, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including healthcare and education.
The Children's Aid Foundation thanks the public for its support when shopping at their local LCBO store from February 3 to March 2.
