TORONTO, Oct. 15, 2012 /CNW/ - To mark the 11th anniversary of the VINTAGES annual auction of fine and rare wines, LCBO is auctioning one of only 11 bottles of Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve. One of the rarest, single malt scotches in the world, it is valued at $50,000-$70,000. All proceeds from this sale will go to Wounded Warriors, a not-for-profit organization that assists and improves the quality of life of wounded Canadian soldiers and their families.
"The LCBO is proud to help raise money for such an important charity that helps re-train and re-educate our injured servicemen and women," says Barry O'Brien, Director, Special Projects, Marketing & Customer Insights, LCBO.
The VINTAGES auction features two bidding sessions. The first session will take place on Friday, October 19 in the Grand Ballroom of the Trump International Hotel & Tower following a pre-auction dinner at the hotel located at 325 Bay Street, Toronto.
The auction bidding starts at 8:00 p.m. and will run until bidding closes. The second day of the auction will be held at Waddington's Auction House at 275 King Street East on October 20, starting at 10 a.m., and will last until bidding closes. Both bidding sessions are free and open to the public.
This year's VINTAGES auction offers an array of grand cru Burgundy, including an almost unheard of six-litre bottle of 1972 DRC, Romanée-Conti and full cases of 1982 and 1986 DRC Romanée-Conti. Perennial favourites like cru classés Bordeaux are available in quantity, as are splendid selections of American cult wines, including the largest assortment of Sine Qua Non ever auctioned by the LCBO.
In all, more than 1,100 lots of rare wines valued at $2.3 million will be offered for bidding this year. All wines consigned to the auction are stored in temperature and humidity-controlled conditions at LCBO's warehouse in Toronto.
Each lot can be viewed at http://vintages.waddingtons.ca where customers can also register for the sale and bid live during the auction. Auction catalogues are available at the auction or as a download at www.vintages.com/auction.
"The VINTAGES auction is a great opportunity for collectors to buy wines not available through other channels and is an excellent way to build a wine portfolio that can appreciate in value over time," notes O'Brien.
LCBO is Canada's largest retailer of wine, spirits and beer with sales in 2011-12 exceeding $4.7 billion.
Waddington's is a Canadian-owned and operated company that has been in the auction and appraisal business since 1850 and is considered Canada's largest purveyor of international calibre fine art.
