Leading economists meet to talk about Alberta government revenue
EDMONTON, June 24 /CNW/ - Three leading Canadian economists will gather at The Fairmont Palliser hotel in Calgary on Monday, June 28th, to discuss Alberta government revenue - yes, that means taxes.
Roger Gibbins, President and CEO of the Canada West Foundation; Todd Hirsch, Senior Economist with ATB Financial; and Erin Weir, an economist with the United Steelworkers union's Canadian national office, will join Gil McGowan, president of the Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL), to kick-start a provincial conversation on how Alberta can generate the revenue it needs to pay for public services and avoid deficits.
The event, which is open to the public, has been organized by the AFL as it launches a new report looking at the province's revenue problems. The report calls for an end to kneejerk demands for tax cuts and for a grown-up conversation about fixing the government's broken revenue system.
- Time: 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2010. - Location: The Marquis Room, The Fairmont Palliser, 133 - 9th Avenue SW, Calgary.
