Leading Pharma Ingredients Event Makes Successful ASEAN Debut
Expanded event scheduled for 2013
AMSTERDAM, June 12, 2012 /CNW/ - Leading events organiser UBM Live has announced that over 4,300 visitors attended the newest event to join its global UBM Pharma Portfolio, CPhI Southeast Asia (SEA) 2012, which ran from 10-12 May 2012 at the Jakarta International Expo in Indonesia. The event, which was the first of its kind in the ASEAN region, featured 220 exhibiting companies from 24 countries. The strong international line-up at CPhI SEA was further supported by pavilion representation from CCCMHPIE (China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Medicines & Health Products), Pharmexcil (Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India), CCPIT (CCPIT Sub-Council of Chemical Industry - China) and Korea.
When speaking at the opening ceremony of CPhI SEA, guest of honour Deputy Health Minister Ali Ghufron Mukti, commented, "Rapid population growth and the improving economy are factors that will increase drug consumption here." Describing the government's new social insurance programme, which is due to come into effect in 2014 and designed to provide free healthcare for 76.4 million people categorized as poor or near poor he added, "In the past, it's a kind of disaster for the poor to get sick. But now, if the poor people get sick, there's no need for them to pay, as everything is already paid by the government. Under such a situation, we have many opportunities for investors and drug manufacturers to produce and to meet the need and demand for drugs to the community."
According to the Indonesian Pharmaceutical Association, GP Farmasi, the pharmaceutical market in Indonesia is the largest in South East Asia and is set to be worth $4.9 bn by the end of 2012, representing a growth of 10-12% year on year. Andrew Pert, UBM Live Brand Director noted, "We are very pleased by the response to the inaugural CPhI SEA. By bringing CPhI to the ASEAN region, we aim to facilitate the sourcing of the best quality and most affordable pharmaceutical ingredients that the world has to offer. This, in-turn, will ensure that the health needs of the ASEAN region's growing population are met."
CPhI SEA will return to the Jakarta International Expo from 20-23 March in 2013 and UBM Live has also revealed that the expanded format will incorporate two further co-located Pharma events, P-MEC and InnoPack. P-MEC SEA will provide a networking platform for pharmaceutical machinery and equipment resources, while InnoPack SEA will highlight global packaging solution providers and their latest innovations.
