TORONTO, March 1, 2012 /CNW/ - American Tack & Hardware Co. Inc. (AmerTac), of Saddle River, N.J. today announced a voluntary recall of its Model No. 71190).
An electrical short circuit in the night light can cause it to overheat and smolder or melt, posing burn hazards to consumers. AmerTac has received 24 reports from the United States and 1 report from Canada of the night lights smoking, burning and/or charring. No injuries have been reported.
The night light being recalled is model number 71190. The night lights are rectangular, about 2-3/16 inches high, 3-1/2 inches wide, and 1-1/4 inches deep. The front housing is either white- or nickel-coloured plastic and has four horizontal vents with a round light sensor above the top vent. The backs of the night lights are grey plastic with the AmerTac™ logo, 71190 or 7119A, "SY" identification code and "ETL" molded into them. Only models with SY molded on the back are being recalled.

The night light was distributed by hardware stores, home centers and lighting showrooms for about $6.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled night lights, remove them from the wall sockets and contact the firm for instructions on receiving a full refund.
