LEDCOR HOLDS STAND DOWN FOR ALL LOWER MAINLAND BUILDING EMPLOYEES
Employees from 35 Ledcor jobsites attend safety meeting
VANCOUVER, Dec. 6 /CNW/ - Ledcor building jobsites across the lower-mainland came to a standstill today when Ledcor project teams from 35 jobsites and management gathered at the Vancouver Convention Centre for a safety meeting and to review the incidents that occurred on December 2, 2010 with two subcontractors at two separate Ledcor jobsites.
During the meeting, Ledcor's senior management team and project employees informed attendees that Ledcor is fully cooperating with regulatory authorities and managing its own investigations to determine exactly what happened and more importantly - why - these incidents occurred. Ledcor plans to share the results of the investigations with its employees with the goal of preventing incidents like this from re-occurring.
Employees were also reminded about the importance of safety for all tasks and to use this time of heightened awareness to utilize the HSE resources available to all Ledcor employees.
As the next course of action, all Ledcor construction sites across Canada will have a mandatory safety talk with the entire jobsite before going to work on December 7, 2010. During the meetings, all Ledcor and subcontract employees will be reminded of the importance of creating and maintaining a safe worksite.
Ledcor is working closely with the subcontractors, HP and BirdAir, to ensure the appropriate help and services are being offered to the families. All Ledcor employees are being offered critical incident stress counseling on-site. Ledcor is also exploring options to further support the families of the workers.
