TORONTO, Nov. 14, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Through sponsorship support from National Bank of Canada, NHL Hall of Famer Bryan Trottier, and well-known Canadian author Sigmund Brouwer visited two Toronto schools on Monday, November 12: North Kipling Junior Middle School and Oakridge Junior Public School.
Bryan Trottier is an NHL Hall of Famer and, with 7 Stanley Cups rings, was crucial to the success of the New York Islanders' dynasty. Sigmund Brouwer is an established author with eight titles on the 2009/2011 Canadian Children's Book Centre list of Best Books for Kids and Teens. Sigmund has been visiting schools across Canada for the last twenty years, encouraging students to use their reading and writing skills to reach for their dreams.
"Sigmund and Bryan brought great energy and enthusiasm to the North Kipling JMS community. Their messages of persevering through adversity was so motivating, and encouraging to our youth. The mix of music, sports, and literature is sure to captivate a large audience, when done with testimonials and humour!" wrote Douglas Cornell, teacher at North Kipling Junior Middle School, in a thank you note to National Bank.
Bryan and Sigmund presented their motivational program at North Kipling and Oakridge schools with the message that literacy is a foundation for students to reach their own dreams, and in achieving those dreams, they not only lift their own Stanley Cup, but also contribute to the legacy that matters - their own.
In recognition of the importance of helping students with literacy, each student will receive one of Bryan Trottier's hockey novels, donated with the generous support of National Bank.
