Leo Baeck makes Jewish school more affordable with tuition subsidy, first of its kind in Ontario
Money from anonymous donor will provide families with up to $5,000 each
TORONTO, Feb. 5, 2013 /CNW/ - The Leo Baeck Day School is making a Jewish education more affordable for middle-income families with today's launch of a subsidy of up to $5,000 for eligible new students.
The first program of its kind offered by a Jewish day school in the province, the incentive seeks to lessen the financial barrier that makes private Jewish school unaffordable for some families.
Supported by start-up capital from a generous anonymous donor, the "AlephBaeck" tuition incentive is for eligible new students entering the school's Thornhill campus in September 2013.
"Not only will this program increase enrolment, but more tuition fees allow us to minimize tuition increases for all parents. Everyone wins," said Head of School Eric Petersiel, adding Leo Baeck's solid financial track record is a result of using tuition fees to cover all expenses.
While the school has two campuses - one in Thornhill and one in the City of Toronto - the program is being piloted at the Thornhill campus only for the 2013/2014 school year.
"Given changing demographics in York Region, piloting this program at our North Campus makes sense," said Petersiel, who oversees both campuses.
The program is for new students entering Leo Baeck's Thornhill campus in nursery, JK, SK, Grade 1 or Grade 2. Petersiel said the school hopes to eventually expand the program.
