Les matingénieurs, a new series of OIQ ethics and professional conduct workshops, off to a good start

MONTREAL, Oct. 25, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - More than 150 engineers working for consulting engineering firms, municipalities or other employers participated today in Montreal and last Monday in Québec City in the first of four events dealing with the ethical and professional conduct issues that engineers regularly encounter. Offered by the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ), this new series of breakfast workshops entitled Les matingénieurs will continue until February.

The topic discussed at this week's event, professional independence, will help the engineers who attended to better recognize conflict of interest situations. With the information presented by the expert panelists assembled by the OIQ, participants are now better equipped to recognize and deal with situations in which their professional independence may be at risk.

"The OIQ is committed to devoting the necessary resources to ensure that all engineers engage in exemplary professional practices. Les matingénieurs are just one of the many informational, training and prevention initiatives developed by the OIQ to better protect the public and support its members. We encourage engineers and their employers to take an active part in the next three events," said OIQ president, Daniel Lebel, Eng., FIC, PMP.

Next event: how to properly manage contracts and extras

The series will continue with a breakfast workshop on contracts offered on November 18 (Montréal) and 29 (Québec City). This event will focus on showing engineers how to avoid ethical traps in contract awards and management.

Two other events are planned in 2014, one on business practices to be held on January 28 (Montréal) and 29 (Québec City), and another on the supervision of works on February 25 (Québec City) and 27 (Montréal).

At each workshop, experts present concrete examples reflecting actual experiences in the field. To make the activity more interactive, participants use voting terminals to answer questions and generate stimulating discussions.
