Les Rôtisseries St-Hubert is the first restaurant chain to collect compostable materials in its restaurants

This represents 2,800 tons of compostable materials recovered each year!

MONTREAL, Oct. 15, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, Les Rôtisseries St-Hubert announced the deployment of its major project to collect compostable materials in its restaurants, a first for a Quebec restaurant chain. The environmental initiative innovation therefore continues for Les Rôtisseries St-Hubert, the first restaurant chain to have developed 100% recyclable and compostable packaging in 2009 and more recently becoming one of the founding partners of the Hydro-Québec Electric Circuit.

The company decided to extend the composting project to its network after the successful pilot-project implemented in 2010 at the rotisserie located on Lajeunesse in Montreal. "Although daring, this program fits perfectly with our company's sustainable development plan and reflects our philosophy in terms of innovation," said Jean-Pierre Léger, President and CEO of St-Hubert Group. "This approach shows our commitment to the company's social responsibility while allowing our establishments to keep the pace with our customers and employees' social and environmental concerns."

Over 80% of compostable materials diverted from landfills

Currently, 54 Quebec rotisseries are composting and among those, 35 have obtained level 3 of the ICI ON RECYCLE! Certification, the highest performance recognized by RECYC-QUÉBEC. "The $200,000 financial assistance from RECYC-QUÉBEC has accelerated the program implementation in our network. We are confident we will reach our goal and have our rotisseries, both in Quebec and outside Quebec, collect compostable materials by early 2015," said Marie-Line Beauchamp, President of Les Rôtisseries St-Hubert.

In concrete terms, the development rate for composting organic materials from participating rotisseries exceeds 80%. Les Rôtisseries St-Hubert's initiative sends about 2,800 tons of leftovers to composting per year, which would otherwise result in landfills. "Our employees' valuable contribution is the basis for the success of our composting project," added Mrs. Beauchamp.
