OTTAWA, Nov. 9, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Art works by 258 aspiring artists aged 16 to 19 from across Canada are featured in the 5th edition of the National Gallery of Canada (NGC)'s contest So You Want to Be an Artist? Members of the public have until 11:59 pm EST November 15, 2015 to vote for their favorite artworks on the contest website soyouwanttobeanartist.ca
This year's contest features submissions from across the country; from Quispamsis, New Brunswick to North Saanich, British Columbia and everything in-between.
The contest will have 15 finalists, 12 chosen by the voting public, and three additional artworks selected by NGC Associate Curator of Canadian Modern Art, Adam Welch. These 15 finalists will have their artworks displayed at the NGC in the Artissimo Gallery.
In early December 2015 the jury, which this year includes, Associate curator of Canadian Modern Art, Adam Welch, artist Luke Siemens, artist Sandy Plotnikoff, and artist and Associate Professor of Painting at the University of Ottawa, Jinny Yu, will select three prize winners from the 15 works on view.
The first-place winner will receive a trip to Ottawa, an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Gallery, a portfolio review by an NGC curator and a gift certificate for art supplies.
