Mark your calendars: September 17 - 23 is Prostate Cancer Awareness Week in Canada
TORONTO, Sept. 17, 2012 /CNW/ - Today marks the start of Prostate Cancer Awareness Week, a week focused on educating Canadians about the most common cancer to affect Canadian men. From September 17-23, Prostate Cancer Canada (PCC) will hold events across the country to raise awareness about the importance of prevention, education and early detection of prostate cancer.
"We want to dedicate this week to everyone affected by prostate cancer - those currently living with the disease, survivors, their families and caregivers - as well as those who will be impacted in the future," said Steve Jones, President and CEO of Prostate Cancer Canada. "As Canadians, it's our time to stand together and stand up to prostate cancer - together we can make a difference."
To support the week, several events will be taking place across the nation including: an announcement at Parliament Hill which includes select government officials wearing blue to showcase their commitment, landmark light-ups (major buildings in select cities will turn their lights blue in support of the cause), City Hall flag raisings, street festivals and much more. Funds raised during the week will support research that will ultimately find a cure, uncover better diagnostic and treatment options and provide support services for those living with the condition.

One in seven men will be affected by prostate cancer in their lifetime. Show your support by participating in a local event, donning the signature PCC tie or scarf, a symbol of hope and unity that we will ultimately find a cure or making a donation in support of those affected and their families.
