Liberal ministers named as part of OPP investigation into kickback scandal
TORONTO, May 28, 2014 /CNW/ - Two former Liberal ministers, Harinder Takhar and Rick Bartolucci, were named in Ontario Provincial Police documents as having received free cleaning, as part of an OPP investigation into an elaborate government kickback scheme, New Democrats revealed.
The investigation resulted in a series of criminal convictions of government officials who pleaded guilty to breach of trust and accepting secret commissions. Two of the officials worked for the Ministry of Transportation while Kathleen Wynne was still the Transportation Minister.
The OPP provided the Liberal government with the names of multiple officials who received free cleaning and recommended an internal investigation.
New Democrats called on Kathleen Wynne to confirm the names and come clean on details of the Ontario Provincial Police investigation where the cabinet ministers were named, and explain what action government took.
According to sworn witness testimony in a court case related to the kickbacks, a contractor who turned police agent testified to providing free cleaning services to nearly 200 public officials during that time, including the "cabinet ministers".
New Democrats also setup a toll free number for members of the public to find out more and leave a message for Kathleen Wynne: 1-844-LIB-MAID
