OTTAWA, Jan. 5, 2017 /CNW/ - On December 29, 2016, the Liberal Party of Canada approved Khatera Akbari as a qualified nomination contestant in the riding of Ottawa-Vanier.

This riding is culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse. I will work hard to earn the respect and confidence of all residents and business owners. Their voices will be my priority as we will build the future of Ottawa-Vanier together."
A mother of three, a wife, a daughter, a small business owner, a career woman, and an involved member of the Ottawa –Vanier community, Ms. Akbari understands the concerns of local families who were once her neighbours and now are lifelong family friends. With strong ties to the riding, she is passionate to advocate for Ottawa – Vanier.
"I want to advocate for our riding, ensure our community has a strong voice in Parliament, and find solution-based results that benefit equally all residents of Ottawa-Vanier."
Ms. Akbari earned her Bachelor of Commerce Degree with a specialization in Accounting from the University of Ottawa and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
She began her career at KPMG as an auditor for various organizations such as non-profits, the high-tech industry, small businesses, the federal government, and hospitals. She focused on improving business policies and processes to make these organizations more efficient, effective, and fiscally responsible.
Ms. Akbari transitioned to Senate Administration on Parliament Hill where she created a process to develop the Senate's first ever financial statements and have them audited. She then led the creation of a quality assurance and monitoring function with the mandate of increasing accountability and transparency in Senate administration processes.
