The films will be distributed by the Alliance company Aurum Producciones S.A., the leading independent distributor in Spain; the agreement extends Aurum's existing relationship with Summit to encompass Lionsgate films as well and is the latest milestone in Lionsgate's strategy of establishing an international distribution network of blue-chip partners in major territories around the world.
"We are delighted to extend Summit's longstanding relationship with the team at Aurum to encompass both the Lionsgate and Summit brands in Spain," said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Patrick Wachsberger and Rob Friedman. "The combination of Lionsgate and Summit earlier this year allows us to bring a significantly expanded portfolio of product to our distribution partners around the world, enables us to achieve significant economies of scale and ensures even greater consistency and visibility in our global business."
"We have enjoyed a very productive relationship with Rob and Patrick on the TWILIGHT franchise and other Summit films, and we're delighted to extend and expand our partnership to the entire Lionsgate team," said Xavier Marchand, Managing Director of Momentum Pictures and President of worldwide Distribution for Alliance Films, Aurum's parent company.
"The new agreement provides us with a supply of some of the most commercially exciting films in the world, and we're pleased to build on our rewarding history with Summit by entering this exciting new partnership with the entire Lionsgate family," added Jorge Vazquez and Igor Ibeas, Aurum's general and deputy general manager, respectively.
Aurum partnered with Summit Entertainment on the release of TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 in Spain, where it grossed more than $26 million at the box office and was the number one film in Spain in 2011. Aurum will also distribute the next three films of Lionsgate's HUNGER GAMES franchise as well as Summit's TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 2 and RED 2 in Spain.
The agreement was orchestrated for Lionsgate by Wachsberger, Lionsgate International President Helen Lee Kim and Lionsgate Executive Vice President International Legal & Business Affairs Michael Meyer and for Alliance Films by Marchand and Vice President Legal & Business Affairs for Europe, Spyro Markesinis.
