Listowel Banner Staff to receive Fire Safety Award
TORONTO, June 4, 2013 /CNW/ - Staff of the Listowel Banner will receive a Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony on June 12, 2013 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
The Listowel Banner is a weekly newspaper serving northern Perth, Huron and Wellington counties. Time and again, the Banner provides consistent and accurate coverage of fire department activities, such as school fire drills, the grand opening of the Listowel fire station and open air burning regulations. Over the years during Fire Prevention Week, the Listowel Banner publishes a special pull-out section with pictures, tips and fire safety information, at no cost to the fire department. The Banner has also supported Fire Prevention Week by providing prizes such as bicycles to children who submit home fire escape plans.
Listowel Banner general manager Bill Huether, editor Shannon Duff and reporter Andrew Smith are always eager to get involved in fire department initiatives, such as a recent carbon monoxide alarm giveaway promotion. During the holiday season, the Banner prepared and published an editorial on the 12 Days of Holiday Safety campaign.
"The Listowel Banner has proven to be a great supporter of the North Perth Fire Department and its efforts to keep residents of the community safe from fire," said Ted Wieclawek, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair, Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council. "With the support and assistance of this newspaper's staff, the fire department has been able to make the most of all of its public education initiatives."
The Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council gratefully acknowledges the support of its sponsors in this event: Technical Standards and Safety Authority, The Co-operators Group, Kidde Canada Inc., Home Depot of Canada Inc., Proctor & Gamble Inc., Electrical Safety Authority, CSA Group, Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc., Roxul Inc. and Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada.
