TORONTO, June 19, 2017 /CNW/ - Laborers International Union of North America ("LiUNA"), North America's single largest construction union with over 100,000 Canadian members, is issuing a release today to correct inaccurate information released by Aphria Inc. on June 15, 2017, with respect to a partnership announced with LiUNA Local 625. We wish to clarify that LiUNA in fact has no partnership or agreement with Aphria, nor will it be entering into any such partnership.
LiUNA does, however, remain strongly committed to the coverage of medical cannabis for its members, and believes that this treatment has the potential to improve treatment options, reduce lost work time and overall lead to better outcomes for its members.
To this end, LiUNA is pleased to update that it remains partnered with Cannabis Care Canada Inc. (CCC), which fully expects to close a previously announced agreement within the month whereby CCC will pay $7 million in cash to acquire a company operating a licensed production facility in Bowmanville, Ontario and enter into a three-year Supply Agreement with Canopy Growth Corporation, the world's largest and most diversified cannabis company operating several sites across Canada. Work is already underway between CCC, LiUNA and Canopy Growth subsidiaries to educate and assist LiUNA's 100,000 members with respect to medical cannabis.
