Live from City Hall - new music series launched tonight
TORONTO, Jan. 7, 2016 /CNW/ - Mayor John Tory was joined in the City Hall rotunda by Kevin Barnes, Senior Vice President and Region Head, Greater Toronto Region, TD Bank Group this evening to help launch the new Live from City Hall music series. The launch event featured performances by Toronto groups The Young Novelists and The Muso Project.
"As City Hall works to help build Toronto's music sector, this series gives our talent a space to showcase their music," said Mayor Tory. "Our residents deserve a vibrant music scene, which can help make Toronto attractive to visitors and drive economic growth, job creation and investment in our city. I encourage everyone to attend Live at City Hall and see what our artists have to offer."
Live from City Hall, presented by TD, features local artists across multiple genres performing in the rotunda of one of Toronto's most iconic buildings. These free admission performances will take place approximately twice a month, Thursday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m., with two artists at each showcase.
"At TD, we believe that one of the best ways to strengthen our communities is by investing in access to music," said Barnes. "TD is committed to creating opportunities for people to discover and share their love of music. We are thrilled to be the presenting sponsor of this unique series that not only brings live music to City Hall, but also provides performance opportunities for local artists and bands."
"This program is indicative of the City's collaborative approach to supporting musicians and strengthening our music industry," said Councillor Michael Thompson (Ward 37 Scarborough Centre), Co-Chair of the City's Toronto Music Advisory Council.
