Loblaw and UFCW achieve amendments to contract offer; Ontario strikes scheduled for Sunday deferred
BRAMPTON, ON, July 3, 2015 /CNW/ - Loblaw Companies Limited (TSX:L) and the United Food and Commercial Workers (locals UFCW 175 & 633 and UFCW 1000A) have achieved amendments to the memorandum of agreement for 69 stores across Ontario, from Ottawa to Windsor.
Sixty stores, represented by UFCW 1000A, including Loblaws Great Food and Real Canadian Superstores from Ottawa to London, have deferred strikes planned for Sunday, July 5. They will vote to accept or reject the amended offer between July 5 and July 8. If it is rejected, those 60 stores will strike Saturday, July 11 at 12:01 a.m.
Nine stores, represented by UFCW 175 & 633, including four Zehrs Great Food and five Real Canadian Superstores, will continue strikes begun July 2, pending voting dates to be announced. All nine stores have remained open for business.
The company and the union are restricted from public comments at the request of a provincially appointed mediator.
