CALGARY, Sept. 18, 2012 /CNW/ - Rahim Manji, an actor and a teacher, takes on the leading role as the new Principal of a unique performing arts school for children in Calgary.
StageCoach Theatre Arts, the worlds largest network of part-time performing art schools, launches it's first two locations in Calgary this Fall. With over 600 schools worldwide, StageCoach offers quality training in drama, dance and singing to young performers on weekends; and is designed to build confidence and develop communication and creativity through performing skills. Many young people have experienced and enjoyed the training they've received from StageCoach and have gone on to further their education at college and on the professional stage. From this Fall term and with a new Principal on board, the StageCoach school in Calgary looks set to build on this success.
As Rahim says, "A good grounding in performance skills does wonders for confidence and character building. It gives young people the edge over competitors, whether auditioning for a part in a show or in any area of life where they'll need to communicate, to use their voice or creative ability, or work as a team."
Rahim, originally from Calgary AB, has been acting professionally for over 15 years on stage, radio, television, and film and is also a certified teacher. Rahim trained as an actor at the prestigious acting conservatory, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles California, after receiving a BFA Degree in Theatre from the University of Calgary. Theatre credits include: Macbeth, Goodbye Freddie, and El Salvador all performed at the acclaimed Pasadena Playhouse in Los Angeles, CA. Rahim has also been the lead in Enter Laughing, Waiting for Lefty, and When you coming back Red Rider? Film and Television credits include: The Princess and the Marine, Red Herring, Lock her Room, and Viper. Rahim has produced theatre shows, directed short films, and was awarded The Michael Toma Award for acting from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2000. In the spring of 2011, Rahim worked with the prestigious Second City Theatre in Toronto, to help further develop their newly formed Education Outreach Program. Writing credits include: the short film, Bob the Fish which he also directed, the pilot for 'Actor the TV series', and he collaborated on the stage play Pen(ed).
