Local Artists Bring Shipping Containers to Life at this year's PNE
Port Metro Vancouver's Container Art runs August 18-September 3
VANCOUVER, Aug. 18, 2012 /CNW/ - For the second year in a row, Port Metro Vancouver is pleased to congratulate local artists on being selected to create the Port's Container Art installation at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE).
Using everything from traditional paints to cutting-edge multi-media, eight local artists put on a unique interpretation of the Port through the lens of Community, Economy, and Environment - Port Metro Vancouver's three guiding pillars.
Following a successful inaugural year for the Port, the unique, multi-disciplinary installation of 20-foot shipping containers will once again be on display at PNE's Spirit Plaza for the duration of the two-and-a-half week fair.
"Port Metro Vancouver is delighted to once again be enabling this popular exhibit in partnership with our friends at the Pacific National Exhibition." said Robin Silvester, President and CEO, Port Metro Vancouver. "It has been tremendous to see this level of engagement from the local arts scene in making Container Art a successful cultural event for people from all over the Lower Mainland. Their interest reinforces the important role Port Metro Vancouver plays in the life of the communities we touch."
As part of the exhibit, Port Metro Vancouver has also created its own container display. Inside, visitors will be treated to displays of the Port's environmental projects and initiatives, as well as interactive displays on the different goods the Port trades through Canada's Pacific Gateway.
To find out more, visit www.portmetrovancouver.com/events to learn more about the artists and to take a sneak peek of their container creations.
We encourage visitors to the exhibit to tweet a picture of their favourite container art to @PortMetroVan for a chance to win a one-year family pass to the Vancouver Aquarium.
