Local high school students to compete in the VEX Robotics Competition World Championship this month

Wednesday, April 4th at Governor Simcoe Secondary School in St. Catharines meet the students and their robots who will compete against the best in the world

ST. CATHARINES, ON, April 2, 2012 /CNW/ -

WHAT:   Students from Governor Simcoe Secondary School, Ridley College High School, St. Catharines Collegiate, and Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in St. Catharines, ON will be competing against some of the best young innovators in the world April 19th - 21st at the VEX Robotics Competition World Championship in Anaheim, CA.
  More than 10,000 middle school, high school and university students from nearly 20 countries will compete in this global competition.  More than just an exercise in programming and driving robots, these kids are using robotics to hone critical life skills including leadership, teamwork and project management, while increasing their understanding, interest and passion in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. Through robotics, these students are being shaped into tomorrow's visionaries who will create the next big improvements in technology.
   
MEDIA OPPORTUNITY:



  • Meet and interview the young geniuses from your area who will compete next month in the VEX Robotics Competition World Championship.
  • Photograph and shoot video of the brilliant robotic creations from Canada's best and brightest young technology wizards before they step into the ring and compete with and against the best in the world!
  • Meet and interview the team teachers and team leaders who guide and mentor the student teams.
  • Conduct a telephone interview with Karthik Kanagasabapathy, expert on the VEX Robotics Competition in Canada, to learn more about the VEX Robotics Design System, and how it is being incorporated into the classroom and used as an extra-curricular activity to get kids excited about STEM education and pursuing careers in a related field.
