Local House Party Raises Over $6,000 For Children's Wish

DARTMOUTH, NS, Dec. 20, 2012 /CNW/ - Every year, Pictou County couple Rob Roy and Liz Van den Eynden host a holiday house party, with the proceeds benefitting a charitable organization supporting children or families.  This year's party, held on November 24, raised over $6,000 for The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada.

The private party was attended by 62 invited guests and featured a performance by former member of Barenaked Ladies, Steven Page.  The event was sponsored in part by the law firm of MacIntosh, MacDonnell and MacDonald and Webbuilders Group.

Roy and Van den Eynden's decision to support Children's Wish this year was inspired by two couples among their friends; one of whom has been a regular supporter of the foundation and the other whose child was granted a wish by Children's Wish.

This year marked the sixth such house party hosted by the couple who have now raised over $36,000 through their endeavour.

Each year, thousands of Canadian children between the ages of three and 17 are diagnosed with a life threatening illness. Since 1984, The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada has worked tirelessly to grant exceptional wishes to over 19,000 children and their families.

This year, Children's Wish expects to grant over 1,000 new wishes and with the help of volunteers and generous donors, is able to grant nearly three wishes every day.  Each wish is an individual adventure, carefully structured to meet the needs of a particular child and family. Children's Wish is a national charity with chapters in every province and territory.
