Longo's donates $10,000 to Ontario Government's Ice Storm Relief Efforts
Gift cards provided to Daily Bread Food Bank to support victims of power outage
TORONTO, Dec. 31, 2013 /CNW/ - With many Toronto and GTA residents still coping with the aftermath of the ice storm, Longo's today announced a $10,000 donation to the Ontario government's ice storm relief efforts to help those in need - in particular, those who have lost perishable food due to the prolonged power outage that began early in the morning of December 22. Privately owned and managed by the Longo family, Longo's currently operates 26 grocery stores in the Greater Toronto Area with a strong focus on fresh and local produce, as well as online grocery delivery service with GroceryGateway.com.
"Traditionally, the holiday season is a difficult time of year for those struggling to put food on the table," said Rosanne Longo, Longo's Spokesperson and Brand Ambassador. "The recent ice storm and power outages have brought further hardship with the loss of perishable food. Longo's and GroceryGateway have a long and proud history of hunger aid in the GTA community and we hope our donation will help individuals and families get back on their feet for the remainder of the holidays," added Longo.
Through co-ordinations with the Daily Bread Food Bank, Toronto residents who need help will be able to collect a grocery gift card at one of 15 Ontario Works Toronto offices beginning Tuesday, December 31 and ending Friday, January 3, 2014. Longo's gift cards are redeemable at all Longo's locations and GroceryGateway.com e-cards are redeemable online.
