MISSISSAUGA, ON, Feb. 13, 2018 /CNW/ - Valentine's Day came early for the Look Good Feel Better® program, courtesy of two heartfelt donations – $100,000 from the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation and $10,000 from Mary Kay Canada. The corporate donation was part of a unique Giving Tuesday initiative that saw the Company match donations received from November 28 through to December 31.
On hand to accept the landmark donations was President and CEO of Look Good Feel Better, Dee Diaz.
"We can't do this alone. We need the community and we need more donors to invest in us, so we can serve more women. And we're so thankful for the meaningful partnership between our organization and Mary Kay Canada and their heartfelt Foundation," said Diaz. "These donations will help us continue to provide two-hour complimentary workshops to women across the country so they can reclaim a part of themselves they might feel is missing during their cancer journey."
The Look Good Feel Better® program is dedicated to helping Canadian women living with cancer learn special cosmetic techniques to help manage the appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. More than 50% of Look Good Feel Better volunteers are Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants who conduct cosmetic workshops in hospitals and cancer treatment centres nationwide. Since its inception in 1992, it is estimated that the Look Good Feel Better® program has helped more than 140,000 women living with cancer.
"We're thrilled to be able to present Look Good Feel Better with a cheque for $100,000 for the fifth consecutive year, as well as a $10,000 donation through our Giving Tuesday initiative. When you support a woman, you're supporting families and, ultimately, your community. It's an amazing thing to be able to enrich lives by giving back," said Dawn Gerry, Director of the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation and National Director of Marketing for Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd.
Mary Kay has long recognized the importance of supporting women undergoing cancer treatment through the Look Good Feel Better® program, as well as educating women about domestic violence and keeping them safe from it. The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation is supported by hundreds of Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants and Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd. employees.
