Los Cabos sets a new benchmark in eco-tourism with preservation initiatives
Eco-Luxury resorts prepare for the beginning of Sea Turtle Season
LOS CABOS, Mexico, June 2, 2014 /CNW/ - Eco-tourism reaches its peak in Los Cabos this summer as tourists can indulge in the destination, with an environmental conscience. From June to December, thousands of sea turtles will populate the local beaches of Los Cabos for nesting, including the newest beach to be designated with the Blue Flag Certification of Eco-Excellence – Palmilla Beach. Along with being certified eco-friendly, the following eco-luxury resorts are creating unique personal experiences for guests to ensure the species is well protected:
Zoetry Casa del Mar Los Cabos - During nesting months, authorized resort staff collect turtle nests from surrounding beaches and bring them to the resort's protected holding area. This is done to not only protect the eggs but also keep a record of the species and number of eggs that are laid. www.zoetryresorts.com
Las Ventanas Al Paraiso - With the arrival of the first sea turtle, Beach Attendants safeguard the nesting area and post flags and signs to keep people at a distance. Once the eggs hatch, the attendants swirl sashes in the air to frighten away any sea birds that may be lingering near the baby turtles. Guests can also get involved by escorting the turtles to the ocean. www.rosewoodhotels.com/en/las-ventanas-los-cabos
Esperanza - Guests are invited take part in the preservation of endangered species by adopting a baby sea turtle and releasing it into the ocean. This three-hour adventure comes with a turtle adoption certificate, and drinks and appetizers on the beach prepared by the resort's culinary team. www.esperanzaresort.com.
One&Only Palmilla - As sea turtles return to the One&Only's aptly-named Turtle Beach to lay eggs, children have the opportunity to learn more about the turtles, including a certificate acknowledging their sea-turtle release participation. http://palmilla.oneandonlyresorts.com
