MONTRÉAL, Oct. 16, 2024 /CNW/ - Québec had a lot to be thankful for this past Thanksgiving weekend, as a major jackpot was won around the same time for a second consecutive year! This time, the lucky winners will be splitting the Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball Jackpot.
The winning Formule groupe ticket of the October 9 draw was sold in five shares of $6,4000,000 each. The jackpot will be split between six people who are now multimillionaires! They all met and celebrated their win together at the Loto-Québec office (video of the event).
"Lotto 6/49 made many people happy over the last 12 months: Quebecers collectively won over $120,000,000! They took home the Gold Ball Jackpot twice and the $5,000,000 Classic Jackpot 8 times," said Isabelle Jean, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Lottery Games at Loto-Québec.
The winning ticket was purchased at Servi Express Saint-Clet, 350 Chemin de la Cité-des-Jeunes in Saint-Clet. The retailer will receive a 1% commission of $320,000.
About the winners
- Benoit Laberge found out he'd won at the Servi Express Saint-Clet, where the winning Lotto 6/49 shares had been purchased. The regular customer and store attendant were speechless when they saw the amount on the customer display screen. Happy tears were shed when the winner told his family about the prize he'd just won. Thanks to his share of the jackpot, Laberge, who works in delivery, plans to retire early, and so does his spouse.
- Marie-Josée Roy, an avid horseback rider, often stops at the Servi Express Saint-Clet to purchase her lottery tickets on the way to her horseback riding classes. The lucky winner found out that Loto-Québec was looking for the Gold Ball Jackpot winners while drinking her morning coffee. Roy went to a retailer for an attendant to check her ticket. The young man said, "You've won big!" She'll undoubtedly have the chance to devote more time to her passion for horses!
- Louise Lanthier regularly purchases Formule groupe lottery tickets. When she heard that the $32 million jackpot had been won, she headed to a retailer to check her ticket using the self-serve ticket checker. She was stunned when she saw the $6,400,000 amount displayed on-screen.
- Jeanne Bouchard Pharand enjoys purchasing Formule groupe tickets. When she checked her ticket for the October 9 draw using her tablet, she gasped, "I won something!" before even knowing just how much she'd won. Her daughter then used the Lotteries app to confirm that the prize was $6,400,000. Bouchard Pharand plans to spoil her loved ones and purchase a new car.
- Lyne Beaulieu and Alain Dupuis took home the group play ticket's last available share. When Dupuis had his ticket checked at a pharmacy, the staff member squealed with joy when she saw the amount he'd won. The winner immediately called his spouse and asked her to meet him at the store.
The winners are all Montérégie residents, except for Marie-Josée Roy, who lives in Montréal.
Québec scored another major jackpot win on August 28, when Mohamed Karim Mamlouk and Insaf Bach Werdiane, a couple from Capitale-Nationale, won the Gold Ball Jackpot. The October 9 win marks the third time the Gold Ball Jackpot has been won here since the new Lotto 6/49 launched in 2022.
