MONTREAL, Sept. 6, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Hockey players Louis Leblanc and Mathieu Darche, ex-football player Steve Charbonneau, as well as two-time judo Olympic medalist Nicolas Gill will participate in the second edition of the Marathon de Sport de Montreal, which will take place September 8, 2012, at the College Notre-Dame's sports facilities.
In a team-relay format, approximately 20 teams of six to nine participants from a same company or group will take part in six sports: soccer, kick-ball, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, ball-hockey and relay racing. In addition, each team will boast in its ranks an athlete from the Special Olympics Quebec program.
All the money raised will go to Special Olympics Quebec and Special Olympics Canada.
First held in Toronto 11 years ago, the Marathon of Sport is a fundraising event benefitting Special Olympics Canada, a national organization created in 1969 that has provided positive, successful experiences through sport for thousands of Canadians with an intellectual disability. Special Olympics Canada has successfully registered 34,000 Canadians of all ages and abilities and more than 14,600 volunteers, including over 13,000 trained coaches. The Marathon of Sport is also presented in Halifax, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver.
