TORONTO, May 9, 2019 /CNW/ - Luminosity Gaming, the largest esports organization in Canada, and one of the largest in North America, is continuing its recent string of positive momentum by announcing the additions of Chipzy, Yogi, and Sloth to compete on Luminosity's newly formed Apex Legends roster, effective immediately.
Launched by Electronic Arts and Respawn entertainment, Apex Legends was met with immediate success, drawing a staggering 50 million players in the first month alone, and has seen teams like 100 Thieves, TSM, Team Liquid, and now Luminosity assembling competitive rosters.
Adding the new Apex Legends players to the Luminosity roster was of the utmost importance to the franchise, as it continues to grow, compete, and succeed. "Adding Chipzy, Yogi, and Sloth to is incredibly exciting for us," said Steve Maida, President, Luminosity Gaming. "Entering into Apex Legends was a priority, and our goal was to bring the best in the game into the Luminosity family. That's exactly what we've done."
The addition of the Apex Legends team is the latest in a series of growth moves for the franchise:
- Luminosity recently added Grammy Award-nominated recording artist Tory Lanez to its ownership group. The investment by Lanez into Luminosity is the beginning of a partnership that will see the Toronto-born artist become a global ambassador for the franchise, working to engage with fans, grow the brand, create content and to help the franchise continue its track record of success by innovating new creative ideas and leveraging Tory's wealth of experience in the music industry.
- The franchise also recently signed 9 new World Class Fortnite players ahead of the upcoming $40 million Fortnite World Cup, such as Tyler15, who has already qualified for the Finals in New York City this summer.
- The Vancouver Titans, managed by Luminosity, in partnership with Canucks Sports & Entertainment, were recently crowned Stage 1 Overwatch League Champions on March 24, 2019, and just broke The Overwatch League's consecutive win streak record. The team has not lost a match in almost a full year.
- Luminosity was also crowned champions of the Call of Duty World League open event in Fort Worth, Texas last month, with a prize pool of $325,000.
