TORONTO, June 6, 2014 /CNW/ - The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) honoured Lydia Boyko APR, FLMI, B.J., M.Ed., Ph.D. (LM CPRS) with the 2014 CPRS Outstanding Achievement Award. She was recognized for her leadership in the Society's professional Accreditation examination process. She received a certificate in the presence of her industry peers at the CPRS 2014 National Awards Gala on May 27 in Banff, AB.
"This tremendous recognition for work as national accreditation 'team leader' would not be possible without my 'team of genius'," said Boyko. "These dedicated public relations practitioners from across Canada understand the importance of accreditation as integral to building the profession's profile, integrity and respect. Accreditation formalizes skills and expertise for a dynamic and diverse discipline, filled with potential for the next generation of public relations professionals in a huge range of agency, corporate, government and non-profit organizations."
After working in the private sector for a number of years, Boyko now serves the public relations community as a professor in the School of Media Studies & Information Technology at Humber College in Toronto. She has been a member of the Society for more than 30 years.
"Professor Lydia Boyko is a unique public relations practitioner who possesses both a wealth of professional experience and a high level of related academic achievement. Her leadership of the examination development process has been integral to ensuring that practitioners seeking Accreditation demonstrate their ability to apply theory to the practice of public relations," said Kathy Malley, APR, FCPRS, Chief Examiner, National Council on Accreditation. "Attaining an APR through the Canadian Public Relations Society is a mark of significant professional achievement denoting an individual's strategic thinking, ethics and strength as a communicator in a broad spectrum of the industry. To draw these important qualities out, it takes someone of Lydia Boyko's caliber to develop appropriately rigorous testing. Her contribution to the professional accreditation program over the past several years has been exemplary!"
The Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes the long-term dedication of a CPRS member and pays tribute to a single, but nonetheless significant effort. It was one of several Major Awards presented at this year's awards gala. The Major Awards recognize exceptional involvement in the public relations profession and candidates are nominated by peers.
