TORONTO, Oct. 3, 2012 /CNW/ - Mabe and the General Electric Company (GE) in cooperation with Health Canada has announced a recall of certain GE Profile™ frontload washing machines.

| Hazard: | The washer's basket seam can separate during the final spin cycle, which in some instances can breach the unit's top panel, posing a potential injury risk. | |
| Incidents/Injuries: GE has received 19 reports (2 of which occurred in Canada) where the washer's basket separated during the final spin cycle, 10 of which breached the unit's top panel. No injuries have been reported in Canada or The United States. | ||
| Description: | This recall involves GE Profile™ frontload washing machines manufactured between June 2008 and May 2010. The washers were sold in white, red and gold colors. The model and serial numbers are located on the bottom right side panel and on the top door frame of the washer. | |
| Model Numbers: | WPDH8800 and WPDH8900. | |
| Serial Numbers: | All serial numbers with these model numbers are included. | |
| Sold at: | Retail stores nationwide, appliance dealers and authorized builder distributors from September 2008 through June 2011 for between $1,199 and $1,599, as determined by retailers. | |
| Remedy: | Consumers should only use the washer after adjusting the spin speed setting to "Medium" or "Low", and contact Mabe for a free in-home service call to repair the washer. Consumers should not return the recalled washer to the retailer where they purchased as retailers are not prepared to take the units back. | |
