MacEwan's Bachelor of Commerce in accounting program accredited by CMA Canada
EDMONTON, Oct. 10, 2012 /CNW/ - Certified Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada) is pleased to award the accreditation of the Bachelor of Commerce in accounting program at Grant MacEwan University's School of Business.
CMA Canada accredits programs at leading academic institutions which provide complete coverage of the CMA® Competency Map Entrance Requirements and equips students with in-depth knowledge and skills in management accounting and financial accounting.
"Through the CMA accreditation process, we are increasing the pool of qualified graduates who are able to enter the CMA Strategic Leadership Program™ directly from academic institutions, thus helping achieve quality growth in the management accounting profession. It clearly demonstrates our intent to broaden access to the CMA designation while maintaining our tradition of excellence and rigorous standards," said Joy Thomas, FCMA, President and CEO, CMA Canada.
MacEwan University is among an exclusive group of academic institutions across Canada to have an undergraduate accounting program accredited by CMA Canada.
"The accreditation of the program is a substantial benefit to the university and the future of management accounting in Alberta," says Kara Mitchelmore, FCMA, President and CEO, CMA Alberta. "More skilled graduates can enter CMA programs, adding to the value they'll offer both in the program and upon completion. This is also a very happy step in our ongoing relationship with Grant MacEwan University and the quality education it continues to offer its students."
Students who successfully complete the Bachelor of Commerce in accounting program with a minimum grade point average of 75 per cent are exempt from writing the CMA Entrance Examination. This select group of students will enter directly into the Strategic Leadership Program™, the final step required to obtain the CMA designation.
