Macquarie Private Wealth's Recipe for Lunch Money Day success
TORONTO, June 6, 2012 /CNW/ - Take 500 dedicated employees, add in one charitable organization, and combine one great idea - mix together, and you'll create a Lunch Money Day recipe for an outstanding fundraiser. Second Harvest is thrilled to announce that Macquarie Private Wealth employees from across Canada raised $100,000 for Second Harvest's annual campaign Lunch Money Day, becoming the largest fundraiser ever in the 14 year history of the campaign. The Macquarie employees raised $50,000, which was matched by the Macquarie Group Foundation, under its staff support policy.
"Second Harvest is elated to have Macquarie Private Wealth's support of our Lunch Money Day campaign. Thanks to their dedicated, enthusiastic and caring employees, Second Harvest will be able to rescue enough food to provide 200,000 meals to hungry men, women and children in Toronto. This is a tremendous accomplishment," says Jo-Anne Sobie, Executive Director at Second Harvest.
"Macquarie has always understood that we have a duty to give back to the communities in which we operate - in Canada and all over the world," said Earl Evans, CEO and Head of Macquarie Private Wealth. "Not only is providing meals to the hungry a worthy cause, this is another fine example of our employees taking the initiative and embracing a cause they feel strongly about."
In recognition of this remarkable achievement - Food Network Host and Second Harvest Ambassador Bob Blumer recently created, prepared and served a surreal lunch for clients of Macquarie Private Wealth advisors Linda Shick, David Angas and Mike Newton at Toronto restaurant Great Cooks on Eight.
Lunch Money Day is a grassroots campaign that asks Torontonians to donate the equivalent of what they usually spend on lunch to Second Harvest - the largest food rescue program in Canada. For every $10 donation, Second Harvest is able to rescue enough food to provide 20 nutritious meals for our neighbours in need.
