Madahbee congratulates National Chief Shawn Atleo
TORONTO, July 19, 2012 /CNW/ - Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee congratulates Shawn A-in-Chut Atleo on his re-election as National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations.
Madahbee says that the Anishinabek Nation fully supports National Chief Atleo and his vision.
"All candidates brought something to the event but in the end our Chiefs knew what it takes to lead," says Madahbee. "The Chiefs will chart the course. We are the AFN - not the office in Ottawa - so it is up to us to bring change and create a better future."
The Anishinabek Nation established the Union of Ontario Indians as its secretariat in 1949. The UOI is a political advocate for 39 member communities across Ontario, representing approximately 55,000 people. The Union of Ontario Indians is the oldest political organization in Ontario and can trace its roots back to the Confederacy of Three Fires, which existed long before European contact.
