Magical Pamper Me Weekend a Dream Come True for Local Young Girl
ST. JOHN'S, NL, April 12, 2012 /CNW/ - What young girl doesn't dream of a lavish weekend of shopping and pampering at a world-class spa? The Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter of The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada is turning that dream into a reality for 17-year-old Jessica from St. George's this week. Jessica was diagnosed with Dermatomyositis when she was just five years old, and when asked by Children's Wish was her most heartfelt wish would be, she knew her choice was clear.
Jessica, her mother, father and her older brother will drive from St. George's to St. John's this week and will be welcomed by the staff at the Spa at the Monastery & Suites, where they will spend the weekend. While there they will enjoy several complimentary spa treatments and a weekend of pampering and relaxation. The entire family will be escorted around St. John's by limousine, compliments of Arrive in Style and Bugden's Taxi Service. Jessica's special weekend will include shopping at several stores at the Avalon Mall as well as Michael's on Stavanger Drive.
"We feel so blessed to be able to grant wishes to these very deserving and brave children; and Jessica's wish is particularly exciting as it will take place right here in St. John's where we can witness firsthand the happiness it will bring to her and her family," said Edie Newton, Director of the Children's wish Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter. "To be able to help make a child's wish come true is an incredibly humbling and moving experience and we are so thankful for the generous donors who make this important work possible."
Not only will Jessica arrive in style, she and her family will be treated to meals at various restaurants including Cora's (Kenmount Road), McDonalds (Torbay Road), Swiss Chalet (Stavanger Drive), Fog City and the Sheraton's Oppidan. To top off their weekend, the family will enjoy an evening at The Spirit of Newfoundland Dinner Theatre's ABBA production, Gotta Get the Scoop.
Children's Wish has partnered all of the participating St. John's businesses to make Jessica's weekend of excitement and relaxation an experience she and her family will never forget.
The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada
Each year, thousands of Canadian children between the ages of three and 17 are diagnosed with a life threatening illness. Since 1984, The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada has worked tirelessly to grant exceptional wishes to 18,000 children and their families; of these, more than 580 were children from Newfoundland and Labrador.
This year, the Foundation expects to grant over 1,000 new wishes and is proud to have never refused a wish to an eligible child, and with the help of volunteers and generous donors, is able to grant nearly three wishes every day. Each wish is an individual adventure, carefully structured to meet the needs of a particular child and family. The Foundation is a national charity with chapters in every province and territory.
