Magor Extends Flexibility of Aerus Service Delivery Platform (SDP) with Desktop Visual Collaboration Client for Windows, New Suite of OnDemand Services
Aerus SDP Redefines Flexibility for Users' Desktop-Video Interactions
New OnDemand Service Suite Offers Additional Value-added Capabilities for Individual Users and for Specific Industry Vertical Applications
OTTAWA, Ont., March 4, 2014 /CNW/ - Magor Corporation (TSX Venture: MCC) today announced two key developments to the Aerus™ Service Delivery Platform (SDP) that bring greater reach and service options to end users:
1. Support for a desktop visual collaboration client for Windows
2. Three new Aerus OnDemand services:
- Aerus Invite – A personalized virtual meeting room service offering
- Aerus OnScene – A vertical solution for public safety applications
- Aerus WebCollab – A WebRTC-based webinar-style collaboration service offering
The software-based Aerus SDP has been designed to deliver a new level of flexibility for enterprise-grade visual collaboration by combining cloud computing, peer-to-peer networking and media stream switching to enable:
- Concurrent sharing of multi-sourced collaborative media, including desktop screens, iPad screens, static and interactive whiteboards, wearable camera views, live and recorded video, photos and any other content that may be useful
- Real-time adaptability of media-stream quality via scalable video coding
- Native interoperability with SIP, H.323 and WebRTC solutions without the need of additional gateway for media processing
- A distributed server architecture with application layer multicasting for media streams to support for large-scale deployments
- Support for both private and public cloud deployment
"Our ongoing strategy with Aerus is to elevate the use of video interactions to support new collaborative teamwork that goes far beyond the current video conferencing approach." said Ken Davison, Chief Marketing Officer for Magor. "Today, we push further in this direction by extending our visual collaboration experience to the desktop, delivering a new standard for video interactions on multi-purpose PCs for Windows. In addition, the new suite of OnDemand services offers flexibility to end users with access to fully integrated capabilities that would otherwise be offered as entirely separate solutions."
A key component to the end user flexibility enabled by the Aerus SDP is the Aerus Media Engine (AME), which is built into every Aerus client. The AME is comprised of two key innovations:
- An adaptive, scalable video-coding framework that manages the quality of multiple video streams at once and adapts in real time to preserve high quality.
- A robust interoperability library that contains standard protocols and a significant number of media codecs available for use throughout any session for seamless on-the-fly interoperability.
"The AME enables us to take the visual collaboration experience we've delivered in dedicated appliances for meeting rooms and now extend it to the Windows desktop and to other operating systems and devices in the future," said Davison.
The Aerus desktop visual collaboration client is designed to meet the needs of knowledge workers who require access to people and resources in real time wherever, whenever and however they can get access to them. Current desktop clients constrain users to an inflexible workflow model at a time when flexibility is paramount for increasing productivity.
The Aerus SDP OnDemand service layer enables the abstraction of value-added services from the underlying visual collaboration clients, adding the flexibility to extend reach, choice and access to the services end users need at the time they need them.
Magor is announcing three new additions to the OnDemand service layer:
- Aerus Invite is a virtual meeting room (VMR) service that changes the rules on multi-point video sessions by personalizing the service to the user rather than designing the service around capacity of ports. VMRs can be assigned to individual users or public rooms for both private and public cloud deployments. VMRs offer customers scalability and interoperability with minimal scheduling overhead.
- Aerus OnScene is a set of services focused on public safety to enable intelligence-led policing. For example, one such service provides front-line officers, supervising officers and dispatchers with street-level visibility during major events when seconds count or to preserve valuable resources. Aerus OnScene transforms Aerus users located in operations and crime centers into an operations-command-management terminal by providing access to real-time, geo-tagged video streams from IP surveillance systems, smartphones and officer-based cameras in multiple locations.
- Aerus WebCollab is a flexible, WebRTC-based service that enables up to 25 participants to securely attend an Aerus session via audio and/or video with complete views of other participants and shared information. Aerus WebCollab uses the open WebRTC standard, which enables real-time communication for standard web browsers such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Aerus WebCollab is ideal for:
- Holding training sessions for clients, partners or customers
- Delivering lessons for distance education
- Attending lectures by professors in remote locations
- Conducting sessions that include travelling employees
- Delivering distant sales presentations
"This evolution of the Aerus SDP solves several long-standing limitations of traditional video conferencing regarding flexibility of deployment, media-stream quality, sharing collaborative material, scalability to reach large numbers of users and interoperability," said Davison. "Aerus frees customers to collaborate on their own terms and discover innovative new ways to improve workflow productivity by using video throughout their organizations."
Magor will showcase the Windows Aerus Client, Aerus Invite, Aerus OnScene, and Aerus WebCollab at the Enterprise Connect 2014 Conference & Expo March 17 – 20 in Orlando, Fla. The company will demonstrate the new capabilities during the conference at Booth #536.
