Government of Canada awards more than $500,000 in financial assistance to Merinov
GRANDE-RIVIÈRE, QC, Oct. 12, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
Businesses need to be able to rely on adequate resources to create and commercialize innovative products. The Government of Canada is committed to supporting innovative Canadian businesses and organizations. As a true economic driver, innovation is the key to success because it generates growth that benefits businesses and communities.
The Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue and Member of Parliament for Gaspésie–Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, announced that Merinov has been granted $503,132 in financial assistance, in the form of a non-repayable contribution, to carry out research and development on processing technologies in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
Merinov, a non-profit organization, is a research centre that is tasked with research and development, technology transfer, technical assistance, monitoring and succession planning activities that contribute to the sustainable development and competitiveness of the fisheries and aquaculture industry and aquatic biomass valorization.
The funding granted through CED's Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP) will help Merinov establish a method for assessing the shelf life of marine products, develop alternative bait for lobster fishing, assess the commercial potential of collagenase from snow crabs, test grinding and drying technologies for marine co-products to increase their stability, and develop a diagnostic consulting tool for the energy and environmental performance of processing plants.
