OTTAWA, Feb. 12, 2018 /CNW/ - In the early hours of Friday, February 9, a driver was arrested by an RCMP officer as he was observed driving on the opposite side of Highway 5 in Gatineau. The driver was found to be severely impaired as he allegedly had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.
At approximately 1:50 a.m., an RCMP officer had stopped on the side of the road to assist to a broken down vehicle when he observed a vehicle driving South on the Northbound lane coming towards him. The vehicle almost hit the officer as it passed him. Gatineau police service was able to assist with directing traffic away from the vehicle as the RCMP intercepted the faulty driver. The individual was put under arrest and transported to the Gatineau police service, where a breathalyser test showed he had more than twice the amount of alcohol legally permitted in his blood. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
The individual was charged with impaired driving and is scheduled to appear in court on March 7, 2018.
The RCMP wishes to thank Gatineau police service for their assistance.
