CHARLOTTETOWN, July 17, 2014 /CNW/ - The province of Manitoba, a partner in the PEI 2014 celebrations, will be showcased at the PEI 2014 Celebration Zone during Manitoba Week July 21st to 27th. Manitoba Week will highlight the province's rich culture and heritage at the free, family-friendly Celebration Zone. The week includes a concert by Canadian rock legend and Winnipeg-born, Burton Cummings on July 24th.
"Families in Manitoba and PEI have a strong connection; our residents share the love of good music, delicious delicacies and the company of family and friends," said Tourism, Culture, Heritage, Sport and Consumer Protection Minister Ron Lemieux. "Manitoba is where Canada's heart beats, and this exciting event will showcase some of the best of what we have to offer. I hope visitors will enjoy their taste of Manitoba in PEI and then come to our beautiful province to experience more."
Other highlights will include performances by iconic children's entertainer, Fred Penner; folk rocker, Del Barber; vocal group Chic Gamine; Winnipeg Contemporary Dance Company, Juno Award-winning comedian and children's entertainer, Al Simmons; throat singer Tanya Tagaq; singer-songwriter, JP Hoe; jazz vocalist, Marijosée; and Japanese drumming group, Fubuki Daiko. In 2014, Canadians will mark the 150th anniversary (Sesquicentennial) of the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference, which led the way to the creation of Canada. PEI 2014 Inc. is facilitating the planning, promotion and implementation of the Sesquicentennial celebrations. The PEI 2014 celebrations are made possible through generous support from the Government of Canada, the Government of Prince Edward Island, and the City of Charlottetown. The year-long and province-wide PEI 2014 program of events will honour the past, celebrate the present and plan a bold tomorrow.
