Manulife donates $50,000 to Fort McMurray wildfire relief efforts
TSX/NYSE/PSE: MFC SEHK: 945
WATERLOO, ON, May 4, 2016 /CNW/ - Manulife announced today that it will donate $50,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to assist with wildfire relief and recovery efforts in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Manulife will also match employee donations.
"Our thoughts are with all those affected by the wildfire in Fort McMurray," said Marianne Harrison, President & CEO, Manulife Canada. "We deeply appreciate the efforts of all who are helping their fellow Canadians get through this difficult time and we want to contribute to those efforts."
Over 80,000 Fort McMurray residents were displaced from their homes— the largest fire evacuation in Alberta's history— since the first evacuation notice on May 3. Approximately 90 per cent of homes have been destroyed in some areas.
Canadian Red Cross volunteers continue to respond on multiple fronts, providing critical services including family reunification, shelter support, and registration for evacuees.
