MONTREAL, July 5, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - On September 24, participants in the half-marathon and marathon will cross the finish line fueled by maple syrup. Thanks to a new partnership, Quebec company Brix will be the official supplier of energy gels for the Rock 'n' Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon & ½ Marathon.
Founded by a maple syrup producer based in the Montérégie region, Brix sells 100% maple performance gels. These completely natural and non-processed gels contain no colouring agents or preservatives.
"We are always on the lookout for the best products to offer our runners, and we chose Brix for its high-performance, 100% natural, locally manufactured gels. We are delighted to make this top quality Quebec product known to runners from here and elsewhere," said Louis Malafarina, Executive Director of the Marathon. "It is also a natural partnership for us since Brix gels already proved their worth at last year's event."
Arianne Raby, the women's marathon winner (42.2 km) at the 2016 Rock 'n' Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon, is among the elite runners who have already integrated Brix gels into their routine.
"With long distance races that require extensive training, dietary supplements such as energy gels are essential," she says. "Brix maple gels are delicious and help me maintain my pace during the race. I like to think that they gave me that extra push I needed to win the marathon last year!"
Performance gels are a compact form of energy that enables athletes to easily refuel with carbohydrates and electrolytes during a long run. They are easy to carry and are absorbed quickly by the body.
"We are very happy to encourage those participating in this major sports event and enable them to combine good taste and performance with tasty natural products adapted to the needs of endurance athletes," said Mario Plouffe, President and CEO of Brix.
The benefits of maple for runners
Made from concentrated maple syrup, Brix's gels provide the same numerous nutrients as maple syrup. Potassium, an electrolyte that contributes to maintaining athletic performance by helping balance liquid pressure in cells, as well as zinc, calcium, magnesium and manganese, minerals that improve muscular metabolism and develop strength. Brix also contains polyphenols, which are antioxidants that reduce muscle fatigue when consumed before and during training.
