NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, ON, Aug. 8, 2012 /CNW/ - On August 9, 2012, a ground breaking ceremony will take place to mark the start of construction of the new Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Marine Security Operations Centre in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.
Officials from the town of Niagara-On-The-Lake, the Canada Border Services Agency, the Canadian Coast Guard & Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the Department of National Defence, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Transport Canada, and the US Coast Guard, will be in attendance to say a few words, and to answer related questions from the media.

The function of the Great Lakes Marine Security Operation Centre (GL-MSOC) is for partner agencies to collect and analyze information, in order to create an overall picture of maritime activity, and to provide actionable intelligence for investigations and operations, on the Great Lakes and St-Lawrence River.
