NIAGARA FALLS, ON, May 2, 2017 /CNW/ - Marineland is completely committed to the principles of CAZA and remains dedicated to the mission and goals of the national membership.
Marineland is engaged in a transformative expansion of the park. Extensive work will be ongoing throughout 2017 in new, previously undeveloped areas of the park. This will not affect our customer experience.
Following extensive consultations, meetings and discussion, Marineland believes that the ongoing expansion work this summer will materially impact Marineland's re-accreditation process scheduled for June 2017, such that the process will not accomplish the mutual goals of Marineland and CAZA at this time period.
Marineland remains firmly committed to CAZA and as a consequence of this process and discussion, Marineland has voluntarily and temporarily withdrawn from membership to permit the expansion work to be completed and new operations harmonized with CAZA. Marineland will be continuing to work with CAZA to ensure that the expansion is successfully harmonized with CAZA principles.
We can advise you that this expansion does not impact the ongoing health, care and treatment of the animals cared for at Marineland.
As always, Marineland mandates the best interests of the animals as the first priority in any work at the Park. Marineland presently meets or exceeds new legislative requirements imposed by the Ontario government and regulated by provincially mandated OSPCA Zoo inspection teams. Marineland recently passed a full two-day inspection of the park by the OSPCA zoo inspection team. Marineland will continue to actively seek contributions and input from CAZA and the Ontario government as it expands.
Marineland will welcome visitors for an exciting new season beginning May 20.
