TORONTO, Aug. 30 /CNW/ - The Market Surveillance Panel (MSP) has submitted its Electricity Market Monitoring Report to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) on Ontario's wholesale electricity market for the period between November 2009 and April 2010. The Report, published today on the OEB website, states that the market has continued to perform reasonably well according to the parameters set for it.
The Panel did, however, make six recommendations to the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) stemming from observations during this six-month period. The recommendations are in the areas of Price Fidelity, Dispatch, and Hourly Uplift Payments.
The Market Surveillance Panel is appointed by the Ontario Energy Board. The mandate of the Panel is to monitor, report on, and where appropriate, investigate, the activities and conduct of participants in the markets administered by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).
Professor Don McFetridge has completed his term as a member of the Panel. Effective immediately Professor Roger Ware has joined the Panel. Professor Ware is a senior faculty member in the Department of Economics at Queen's University and a leading academic and consultant in the area of industrial organization and regulatory economics.
The Panel's report also serves as a detailed source of information on the operation of the market during the review period.
